Be aware
Regular and Pre-AP Final exam essay
Write a personal narrative that accurately portrays a brief but challenging moment (conflict).
Be sure to include details so that this reads as believable, as authentic, as true.
This composition should be 300-400 words (just like a TAKS Writing compJ).
Choose one of the following story starters:
a. "The dusty, old book was sitting there, just begging to be read."
b. "She had been warned, but now it was too late."
c. "The floorboard creaked."
d. "It was the scariest thing she had ever seen."
e. Describe a place that always gives you a certain feeling such as:
· the dentist’s office
· the dog pound
· a basement
· a school cafeteria
· an empty church
· the beach
· the mountains
· a funeral home
· the first day after school has let out and you know you have NO HOMEWORK FOR THREE MONTHS.
Final exams
You will combine your knowledge of Texas History with narrative writing for this assignment.
· Select an historical time period (setting) in Texas prior to the year 1900.
· Select a person (character) from Texas History that you have studied and are so familiar with that you could actually become this person for a brief moment in time. This could be someone you studied about in September. It does not have to be from the second semester.
· Write a 1st person narrative that accurately portrays a brief but challenging moment (conflict) in this person’s life. Be sure to include artifacts and details so that this reads as believable, as authentic and true.
